Awee! Come By! That'll Do.

This weekend came and went rather quickly, especially considering that I've been graced with a plethora of 3-dayers lately, thanks to my summertime investment in gross anatomy.

Ah tell yew hwhat, I had the better deal.

We had a class of 32 folks among 8 cadavers. This was a comfortable volume of people, with plenty of room to spare.

That same lab now is crammed with an assortment of osteopathic med, dental and podiatry students. When you add in the faculty, the TAs and the cadavers themselves, there are approximately 226 people in that room for each dissection. Then, of course, during the briefing hour when the other half of the students who didn't dissect that day come in to see the progress, we're talking close to 400 bods in that suddenly-wee space.

Yeah. ISAC. Definitely the way to go.

In other noteworthies, the dean revealed to us recently that we lost one of our brethren over the weekend of the white coat ceremony. He/she just decided that medicine wasn't right for him/her after all.

That's a hard decision to make after you've signed a $70,000 promissory note. Not sure what the return policy is on one of those things.

Saturdays are, if you recall, Gunther's and my day to herd. For the first time since we began, I wimped out well before the corgi. G isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and we consistently only see him "get it" during roughly the last 10% of the lesson, but with a slow yet marked response to the commands "awee" (away from me), "come by" (close to me) and "that'll do" (OK you're done). When our trainer, Tina, took over for me while I got my lung back, I had a chance to snap some pix and grab a quick vid of everyone's favorite canine Napolean in action:

You can learn more about Tina's training here.

Also, don't miss G in action--he and one of those wild-eyed ruminants catch some good air.

As you can see from the footage, his biggest downfall is his height. The face-fulls of dust require frequent cough breaks and result in a very dirty face and undercarriage. Shower time.
