2 Weird Things and a Nice Thing

There's another Lindsay in my anatomy and microbiology classes. I love her. She's a recent transplant from an island in Alaska where she used to catch/grow all her own food and she has a thick  North Carolina accent. She says things like, "You better call yourself a veterinarian 'cuz those pythons are sick" (in reference to my arm muscles). She "cracks my shit right up" as she is also wont to say. We've become chummy over the academic quarter.

Both the weird things that happened today involve Lindsay. Both in microbiology. Firstly, during the epidemiology lab experiment (where one of 30-some trays of sugar water was also contaminated with a bacteria, and everyone picked a tray, rubbed their hands in it, then shook hands with 4 other people. Then each person rubbed their hand in an agar plate and incubated it. The people who showed bacterial growth tried to use the data to pinpoint the original "carrier" of the bacteria), Lindsay and I were the pair suspected of carrying the original bacteria. Turns out, I was the carrier, when the prof revealed which tray had the sample in it. We looked at each other with wrinkled noses and said together, "Sicko." 

Then, in our investigative lab experiment, we were trying to separate and identify an unknown mixture of bacteria. She was unknown #13, and I was #26. We noticed a pattern of similarity as we advanced through the processes. Finally, we realized that all of our metabolic tests were identical. Yeah. We had the exact same unknown mixture. What are the odds of that? We looked at each other with wrinkled noses and said together, "Freak."

After classes today, Matt had me meet him at KOMO where they had an official sendoff. While he didn't get the "goodbye-pie" that he wanted, he did get a tremendous and heartfelt tribute. I was impressed that that newsroom almost came to a standstill during the speeching. Even upper management attended. Eric Johnson gave over the Edward R. Murrow award that they won together in NYC in 2007. It now stands front and center on our living room mantel. It was a pleasure to be a part of that. There's too much good stuff to go into here, but the fun isn't over yet. I have a feeling that Friday night's unofficial sendoff at the local pub T.S. McHughes will be quite full. 

It is very strange that the newscar is not parked in our driveway and the Sony BetaSX cam is not in the hall closet. This is the first time ever that Matt has not been employed by an ABC affiliate.
